Strawberry Style 5: I Hate This Town

EDIT: This look was put together before all the darkness of FBE came to light. I no longer support this company and have actually thrown out all the merch I had from them.

This looks was inspired by “All Signs Point To Lauderdale” by A Day To Remember. If I had to pick a song that was the anthem of my teens and early twenties, that was definitely the one. Feeling trapped, beaten down, and like living my life was an act of rebellion in itself. The shirt, merch from Tori Vasquez and FBE, fit perfectly with that time of my life, cause all I wanted to do was listen to music and ignore the world. My happy place was pop punk concerts at The Masquerade, and I just couldn’t want for the freedom of adulthood.

I’ve always have an odd fondness for the color yellow, but wasn’t ever sure how to bring into my sense of style. Truth be told, the original look I bought the Deviant leg harness for used yellow as a highlight color rather than the main focus, but after tossing around some different pieces, this cohesive, warm look just fit. Originally this would have had a lot more black, but if I’m being honest, that’s never who I was. I’ve always loved color. When I was a kid I was obsessed with colored pants, I wanted yellow pants more than anything in the world (finally got em!) and my love of color and happy things is why back then, even the emo kids didn’t like me. A lot of people talk about their scene phase, or their emo phase, but I never really had that. I embraced pop punk as a musical genre and the overall umbrella. There’s a distinct difference in those subcultures, and I always found that pop punk, while the music was universal to all of us, just had a certain positivity to it. In a time where I was almost always sad and broken, the music healed me. I feel like this look, topped off with the always appropriate combat boots and leather jacket, brings that same energy. Out of place, off-putting, but looks damn good and makes me feel good.
